How To Help Your 3 To 6-Year Old Child To Read? (EN Version | CN Version)

Follow These Simple Steps To Prepare Your Child To Read:

First Step – RECOGNISING A to Z

Children can only read independently when they know how to pronounce the alphabets.

To help a child in reading, first, we need to help them to recognise ‘a to z’.

Many parents could try to sing abc song to their children. Singing abc song does help them in picking up all the 26 alphabets, however, introducing phonics to them at the same time help them in reading.

Second Step – Introducing PHONICS (Basic & Digraph)

Parents can always start from teaching the children basic phonics, for example, make the sound of a ‘aah’. Later, introduce digraphs to the children, for example, ‘oo’ sounds like ‘uuuuu’, that’s how we get the words cook, look, took and etc.

Third Step – APPLICATION of Phonics (BLENDING)

After learning the basic phonics and digraphs, parents can teach children how to apply on words. For example, cat. First, we start by making the sound of c, then make the sound of a, and make the sound of t. Then blend them together to get c-a-t. This is the stage where children spend the longest time to practice and sometimes, they get stuck in this stage.

Last Step – Non-stop PRACTICE

Parents, do not panic! What your child needs is more practice.

The more words your child gets to practice, the better they know how to apply phonics and eventually they know how to read!

BENEFITS to Children and Parents

Once they can read fluently, the more books they can read, the more things they can explore, the more ideas they can express! By knowing how to read, it actually expands their knowledge and mind.

Not forgetting, if a child can read independently, books can keep them occupied most of the time and parents can have a little more ‘me time’. Isn’t that the happy ending we want?

步骤三: 运用Phonics(连接)
